CDC’s Best Practices User Guides include new supplement on native communities
A partnership between CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health and the Center for Public Health Systems Science at Washington University is developing a new set of supplements to CDC’s popular Best Practices User Guides for tobacco control. The Tobacco Where You Live supplements help state and local programs understand how commercial tobacco use varies within their communities and take action to reduce tobacco use in communities with the highest prevalence. The first supplement to be released, Native Communities, can help you communicate the harms of commercial tobacco and respect the use of traditional tobacco; work with tribes to tailor strategies to reflect their unique cultures, capacities, and challenges; and learn from real‐world examples of commercial tobacco prevention and control work in Native communities. The supplement includes a section on reducing tobacco industry influence in Native retail stores. You can read or download the supplement on CDC’s Smoking & Tobacco Use website.
