Availability of new tobacco products varies by location

A study of 242 tobacco retailers in Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, and North Carolina
examined the availability of nicotine pouches and disposable e-cigarettes. Researchers found
that pouches were more likely to be available in census tracts with a greater percentage of
non-Hispanic White residents, while disposable e-cigarettes were more likely to be available
in tobacco/vape shops than convenience stores. “As these product types become subject to
increased regulation … understanding patterns and changes in the retail environment is
critical to inform potential policies regulating their sale and marketing,” wrote the authors,
who included ASPiRE’s Joseph Lee and Shyanika Rose. Read the paper.
