A paper describing recent trends in cigarette smoking by annual household income from 2011 to 2017. The study found that in every state, the odds of smoking were greater in lower-income vs. higher-income groups in 2017. Income-based disparities declined from 2011 to 2017 in only one state and widened in three states. The study suggests that little progress has been made in reducing income-based differences in smoking, and additional policy and tobacco control efforts are needed.
