Law center releases guide to retailer compliance checks
ASPiRE partner, the Public Health Law Center, released a “best practices” summary for
inspections of tobacco retailers to ensure compliance with laws that restrict the minimum
legal sales age or sales restrictions on flavored tobacco. Topics include the frequency of
checks, responses to violations, and focusing on “high risk” retailers, such as those with
previous violations of sales restrictions Jurisdictions that want to strengthen existing laws or
create new ones are encouraged to include these recommendations in the law to ensure
they are applied consistently. Read the recommendations.
